In Eckleburg's Eyes - 3/9/2009, Part 2

News & Notes from Saturday, March 7th, 2009, Part 1

-I spent the better part of Saturday confined in the Jane and David Bailey Education Complex on the UT campus. My Adult Learning class started at 8:30 AM and was scheduled to go through 5:30 PM.

-Class started on an ominous note. My friend JCP forgot the charger to her laptop! We depend on that device to get us through the long days. On the plus side, she did remember to bring my Girl Scout cookies that I had bought from her daughter. Not only did I get the delicious Thin Mints, but I helped her daughter earn a special patch.

-JCP was tired. She had stayed up the night before to see a West High School alum on Survivor Tocantins: The Brazilian Highlands. Her husband graduated from my alma mater. The contest, Ben Wade graduated in 1989 and as such, I do not know him.

-RGB taught on Intelligence and Memory on this day. Due to the long hours, RGB dresses casually on Saturdays. This is image is of what I like to call “Casual Ralph”.

-At the class’ lunch break, I drove to Chick fil-A. I needed to get away. Unfortunately, I had to rush to get back on time so I ate in my car. Dipping and driving is not as easy as it looks. It is also not smart.

-In the second portion of the class, we watched a video interview of Adult Education guru Sharan Merriam. The interview was part of a series called Conversations on Lifelong Learning developed by Gretchen Bersch. The interview was conducted in 1992 and released in 2005. In the event we were tired, the volume was blaring on the video. No one slept through it, though in this photo it looks like RGB is dozing off. (He was not. I just liked the photo.)
