Word of the Day - 2/23/2009

Nutation

A nutation is an act or instance of nodding one's head, especially involuntarily or spasmodically.

Felix's nutation was Paul's cue to address the court in his own defense. (Acts 24)

When the governor had nodded for him to speak, Paul responded: “Knowing that for many years you have been a judge to this nation, I cheerfully make my defense,” (Acts 24:10, NASB)

Note: This image of Paul addressing Felix was engraved by William Hogarth (1697-1764).
