In Eckleburg's Eyes - 2/2/2009, Part 4

News & Notes from Sunday, February 1st, 2009

-After a long weekend of class, I spent Sunday catching up on household chores and frankly resting. I also had a major discussion with my father regarding my future. See this Prayer Blog for details.

-I did watch Super Bowl XLIII (that’s 43 for the non-Roman numerally inclined). With the exception of 2003, I have watched every Super Bowl in recent memory and I watched largely out of tradition. To be honest, I had little interest in either the Pittsburgh Steelers or the Arizona Cardinals and had no preference as to the game’s victor.

-As the game wore on, I was drawn in and eventually found myself rooting for Arizona, the underdog. The Cardinals narrowly missed completing the biggest comeback in Super Bowl history, losing 27-23. It was a great game. In ESPN’s coverage after the game, they rated three of the plays in the top ten in the history of the Super Bowl.

-As I was only watching peripherally for much of the game, I missed a large majority of the commercials. I did love the Coca-Cola Zero commercial starring Troy Polamalu which spoofed the famous 1979 Mean Joe Greene Coca-Cola commercial. As an aside, I like Coke but hate Coke Zero! To review my independent taste testing of the products on last April 6th, see the April 7th, 2008 edition of “In Eckleburg’s Eyes”.
