In Eckleburg's Eyes - 11/3/2008, Part 3

On Sunday afternoon, I joined my parents, NTC and HANW for brunch at the Copper Cellar. The food was fabulous as always. Twice baked au gratin potatoes are a sure sign that God exists and that the deity loves us. It does amaze me that an establishment known for fine dining still supplies packets of Smucker’s jelly. I am not complaining, I just find it amusing.

After brunch, I chauffeured JTH and ALK to Claxton where we attended a wedding reception in honor of ANDR and PCR. You may remember that I officiated their wedding on Monday (October 27th) in Myrtle Beach. Though I had driven through Claxton before, this was my first event held in Claxton. It was as glorious as one might imagine.

The event was a drop-in affair from 2 pm-4 pm. It was hosted by PCR’s parents, PCR Sr. and LLR. The good news was that LLR was feeling much better after having been very ill at her son’s wedding. The bad news ws that she kindly forced all of us to eat a lot of food. It was delicious but we had all just come from lunch and were not especially hungry. LLR also had the couple pose for photos with every guest. This photo is of the newlyweds with a neighbor named Mrs. Beeler.

JTH and PCR discussed his rejoining Pacific Sunwear. JTH was to complete paperwork regarding his rehiring on Monday (November 3rd). For those keeping score at home, JTH’s total jobs has risen back to four.

After the party, we picked up money collected by JBT’s mother’s Sunday School class from MLM at our church and then dropped off ALK at Bearden United Methodist Church for the first of two handbell practices on the night. We then used the $85 the class complied and bought JBT’s family a gift card at Kroger. JDM sold it to us as he was working at guest services. We also got to catch up with ALH. I am especially proud of this photo as it features me photographing the security camera’s footage of JDM selling us the gift card.

After picking up ALK, I returned home for another party, this time celebrating the birthday of family friend HWW. My mother had a cake with a NASCAR theme as HWW is an impassioned fan. HWW is a comic genius and it was a joy to spend time with him.

After the party, I picked up ALK at St. Mark United Methodist Church (from her second handbell practice) and drove her home before joining JBT and company. It was to be a boy’s night as we attempted to distract, if not console, JBT and his brother regarding the death fo their mother.
