On Sunday night, I joined a group at Bailey’s Sports Grille. We were there at the request of JBT and his brother, whose mother DJT died on Friday night (October 31st). The group was comprised of the Thomas brothers, their cousins Eric and Kevin (who are brothers), JTH, and myself. We shot pool and watched the Colts beat the Patriots 18-15 on Sunday night football.
We learned more details of DJT’s death. She had long suffered from a heart condition and in February her doctors projected that she would die in 8-10 months. She had long outlived such dire predictions and I had hoped she would again. She died in her sleep and JBT found the body on Friday. I cannot imagine how awful that must have been.
On top of this, MoFoS’ Halls branch, of which JBT owns, was burglarized over the weekend. Thieves descended from the roofs of three stores in the shopping center. They stole all of the store’s game systems but thankfully little else. The other businesses only had alarms on their doors so it was MoFoS’ security that alerted the police. It has been a pretty awful year for JBT.
Despite the circumstances, we did not discuss much on this night, preferring the distractions of the sports bar. We all shot multiple games of pool. I was pretty bad, but no worse than the rest of my party. I defeated JBT’s brother in my first game, before losing by one ball to his cousin Kevin (pictured). In my third and final game, I lost in a rematch with JBT’s brother as I accidentally ricocheted the 8-ball in after hitting my best shot of the night.
In more MoFoS news, JBT has ordered five hundred copies of Dolly Parton’s 1986 television special A Smoky Mountain Christmas. Yes, 500. It may replace Redline as the store’s product of choice. If you need a copy of either, stop by the store.
