Word of the Day - 8/21/2008

Dissimulate

To dissimulate is to disguise or conceal under a false appearance; dissemble.

After the prophet Micaiah predicted that he would die in battle, Israel's king Ahab dissimulated in battle in hopes of concealing his identity.

The king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, "I will disguise myself and go into the battle, but you put on your robes." So the king of Israel disguised himself and went into the battle. (I Kings 22:30, NASB)

Ahab's deception did not spare his life. A "random" arrow struck him and dealt a fatal blow.

Note: This image, "Ahab Wounded in Battle", was painted by Julius Schnorr von Carolsfeld (1794-1872).
