In Eckleburg's Eyes - 2/9/2009, Part 1

News & Notes from Friday-Saturday, February 6th-7th, 2009

-On Friday night, after eating with my parents at Litton’s, I joined JTH at my house so that we could transport LMM’s bookcase to the home of our friend, AMTT . You may remember that we picked the bookcase up on our trip to Washington, DC. (See this January 21st edition of “In Eckleburg’s Eyes” for details.)

-Assuming that LMM had contacted AMTT (we never learn), we loaded the bookcase in JTH’s Nissan Frontier and hit the road. When we arrived, at AMTT’s home, we quickly learned that she had no idea we were delivering the furniture or that it even existed. Still, we had fun chatting AMTT and JCT and playing with their dog Samus.

-They had big news. AMTT is pregnant and the baby is due on September 4th. For those who do not have a calendar handy, this is indeed Labor Day weekend. (Credit DBN for that astute observation.) AMTT noted that she would like to tell LMM that she is “with child”. I informed her that the Virgin Mary was with child. She is knocked up. JCT was so proud. He repeatedly advised JTH and I that the lesson we should take from the pregnancy is the value of perseverance.

-On the way back to my house, JTH called LMM’s mother, who was to be picking up the book case from AMTT. He got her answering machine. JTH did not simply tell her where to pick the item up. He gave her the entire history of his relationship with her daughter and the story of our trip to DC including how we obtained the bookcase. He included way too much info. It was priceless.

-The best part of all of this was that JTH was on the clock at MoFoS throughout the entire process!

-I spent the better part of Saturday in prayer, but did take time to watch the Tennessee basketball team play at Auburn on television. I almost wish I had not. The Vols lost on a last second shot by one point, 78-77. Tennessee played good defense on the final possession but the ball was deflected underneath the basket for the game winner.

-We are cursed at Auburn. Bruce Pearl has never won at Auburn and the team has not won at Auburn since 2003. At least I wasn’t at this loss, as I did drive to Auburn for our 83-80 loss there in 2007. The day was sort of redeemed when Chick fil-A did not get my order ready expediently. I got a free coupon for a free sandwich so it was almost like the Vols scored 90 and had won at home. Sort of...
