In Eckleburg's Eyes - 6/24/2008

On Monday I had my first foray into premarital counseling. Realizing the hypocrisy of a single person fulfilling this duty, I presented the couple with a questionnaire compiled by marriage experts (thankfully supplied to me by MLM).

On Monday night I met them, ALH and his fiancé, at Ruby Tuesday. It was great getting to know them better. I may also have acquired a new hairdresser. Bonus!

We will meet several times before the August 23rd wedding.

Afterwards I met MPW in the sweltering confines of the Bearden High School gymnasium to watch the third night of the Rocky Top Basketball League. MPW and I were especially interested in the evening’s 7:30 contest. Technically, we were not as interested in the game pitting the league’s two undefeated teams against each other, but the return Wayne Chism after walking out of the gym in last Wednesday’s game. The game was great, but there was sadly no drama from the Chism situation.

We got to see many of our friends and acquaintances at the game - RLJ, JTL, TYP, RWW, and the team of Mr. X and JAH. With all of these acquaintances in attendance, we managed to sit by an annoying kid who dribbled a basketball throughout both games, including during clutch free throw shots with the action directly in front of him. He was still the second most annoying person in the building behind the p.a. announcer. If Gilbert Gottfried walked in the building, even he would be second to that guy.

Bearden commentator AFD was in the stands. Sign him up. Please!

My comments on the actual basketball are posted under “A View from 315A.”

After the games, I picked JTH and I up smoothies from the Tropical Smoothie Café. I had forgotten that KGG had recommended a “Sunny Day” and I made the unadvised choice of purchasing a peaches n’ silk. I assume the drink tastes like silk because it did not taste like peaches. It really wasn’t all that bad (I finished it) it just wasn’t what I was expecting. Consider yourself advised.
