Bible Trivia - 5/1/2008

Question: By what other name was Esther known?

Answer: Hadassah. (Esther 2:7)

Comments: Hadassah is also the name of the Women's Zionist Organization of America, a prominent Jewish women's volunteer organization. It was founded in 1912 in conjunction with the celebration of Purim (Esther 9:26) which commemorates the story depicted in the book of Esther. In memory of this, the group took its name from Esther's alternate appellation.

He was bringing up Hadassah, that is Esther, his uncle's daughter, for she had no father or mother. Now the young lady was beautiful of form and face, and when her father and her mother died, Mordecai took her as his own daughter. (Esther 2:7, NASB)
