Comments: The New International Version of the Bible is one of the most popular translation on the market. The (Protestant) translation began in 1965 largely in response to the (Catholic) Revised Standard Version. The New Testament was released in 1973 and the full Bible in 1978. It underwent minor revision in 1984.
It critics have jokingly claimed the acronym stands for “Nearly Inspired Version.”
