Prayer Blog - 2/8/2008

I learned yeterday of the death of Will Ridenour last June 11 in an automobile accident. Willie was one of JJG and KGG's childhood friends and was only 20 years old at the time of his death. I passed a memorial at the site of his accident yesterday, only two blocks from his home. Obviously, the family, is still struggling with his death as are his contemporaries in the neighborhood.

The eldest son of a local construction company owner died two blocks from his West Knox County home in a single-vehicle crash. Will Ridenour , 20, died in the 11:45 p.m. Monday crash on Houser Road, said Knox County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Ashley Carrigan. The crash occurred two blocks from his parents’ house and his mother was at the scene shortly after the wreck, authorities said.

Carrigan said Ridenour was southbound on Houser Road near the intersection with Buckhead Trail when the 2006 GMC pickup truck he was driving crossed the center line at a curve.

The truck left the road and hit a Knoxville Utilities Board electrical box before striking a tree and coming to rest on the side of the road, Carrigan said.

Ridenour was not using a seat belt, she said. He was pronounced dead at the University of Tennessee Medical Center.

Carrigan said there was no indication of alcohol or drugs involved in the crash.

Ridenour ’s father, Steve Ridenour , owns J.S. Ridenour Construction Company Inc. in Powell.

Will Ridenour was a 2005 graduate of West High School. He was a sophomore at the University of Tennessee. He has a younger brother.

Will Ridenour had been interning at his father’s construction firm and had planned to join the family business, friends said.
