In Eckleburg's Eyes - 3/9/2009, Part 5

News & Notes from Sunday, March 8th, 2009, Part 2

-The basketball game’s noon tipoff prevented MPW and I from eating beforehand so we stopped by the Food Court at West Town Mall on the way home. As usual, I ate at Sbarro.

-After dropping MPW off at his condo, I returned to the Central Baptist Church of Bearden in time for a 4 PM seminar from Milfred Minatrea. Minatrea’s 2004 book Shaped By God's Heart: The Passion and Practices of Missional Churches has inspired RWB so much that he hired him to work with church’s Long Range Planning Committee and give a weekend seminar about being “on mission”. He had also preached during the morning service. The seminar was well attended in part because it substituted for the “Classic Service” that meets at 5 PM. As such, I was ten years younger than anyone else in attendance.

-The seminar was slated to conclude at 6:30 PM. Having already read the book and been in class all weekend, I left at intermission.

-I spent Sunday night with JTH and ALK. We talked at length. Actually, ALK and I talked at length. JTH watched the movie Step Up on television while we chatted despite the fact that the volume had been muted. For whatever reason, this film infuriated him. Specifically, JTH hates the film’s star Channing Tatum. (Note: This picture is of the couple reading together. Each are reading issues of Us Weekly which almost justifies my subscription.)

-Two things of note: 1. ALK cut her middle finger and in showing me the injury flipped me off. That’s right, Sweet Bart flipped me the bird! 2. Earlier in the day, JTH learned that he was born in the Year of the Monkey (1980). This seemed fitting to all involved. (If you know JTH well at all, you have likely heard his spot-on monkey impression.)

-After we waited for quite some time to see ALK’s favorite dance scene (she insisted it was forthcoming for minutes), we ate a late dinner at Texas Roadhouse. Unfortunately, we just missed GAB. After eating, we spent the rest of the night driving around town and talking. It was a good way to end a long weekend.
