In Eckleburg's Eyes - 1/12/2009, Part 1

News & Notes from Friday, January 9th, 2009

-My 10 am meeting with RWB was postponed less than an hour before we were scheduled to meet as he was ill. I still visited my favorite receptionist, JMM, at church and picked up my family’s copy of the church’s new pictorial directory. It is quite thin.

-I called KLTW to see if she and KJW would like to eat lunch with me. She conferred with her daughter, whose exact response was “yeah yeah woo hoo”. I love that child.

-KJW was in her third day of wearing panties. This would prove significant as KJW wandered into her home’s guest room. Unfortunately, she closed the door behind her and, unbeknownst to her mother and I, trapped herself in the room. At just that moment, she felt the urge to go. She did. She was distraught so we did not reprimand her for not making it to the bathroom. Instead, KLTW placed her on the potty. KJW called my name from the bathroom. I came and she asked me to take off her wet socks. It was only midway through this task that I realized that the socks were not water logged. I was honest with KJW. I told her that I was only pretending not to be grossed out.

-KJW had just been visited by her two cousins from Dandridge. KLTW had let the three children all select a toy at Target as long as it was $4 or less. She said the price checking that ensued took minutes. KJW selected this voice amplifier quickly, which she has played with ever since.

-During this visit, KJW’s cousin KGK helped her paint a mural of sorts. The artwork now adorns her room. Is this kid talented or what?

-In other KJW news, not surprisingly, she selected a SpongeBob SquarePants lunch box to tote to preschool.

-At my suggestion, we eventually ate at Mangia Pizza & More. JS served us our food. KJW is a cheap date as she eats mainly bread sticks. When JS came to check on us, she requested more. We had a great visit and also saw ADF at Mangia.

-On Friday night, I attended my first weekend class at UT. The class meets from 5:30-9:00 pm on Fridays and 8:30 am to 5 pm on Saturdays over four weekends. I was given an excused absence for the first Saturday as I was substituting this course for my class that had been cancelled on Wednesday and already had plans on Saturday.

-Despite the long session, the class passed very quickly with great discussion on good and bad learning experiences. Regarding grades, RGB warned: “I haven’t given a C in quite awhile. I can give them if I need to.” Duly noted.
