In Eckleburg's Eyes - 10/27/2008, Part 1

Friday represented the beginning of the Tennessee-Alabama football weekend. The game is played in Knoxville every other year and the town is packed when this occurs. This coupled with a rainy day made traffic heavy throughout the day.

I spent Friday evening with KJW and RAW. KLTW was at work in Morristown as usual. We watched cartoons with an exhausted KJW. (She had napped for only an hour earlier in the day.) We began with an episode of a strange show called The Marvelous Misadventures of Flapjack. The show premiered on the Cartoon Network on June 5th. The premise is that Flapjack is a boy who was raised by a whale until he met a pirate who inspired him to go on adventures for candy. Did I mention that this show is strange?

Afterwards, KJW struggled to stay up but did not want to miss an episode of Star Wars: The Clone Wars. She has been fascinated by the franchise since a co-promotional deal with McDonald’s scored her Star Wars toys this summer. (Well played, marketing gurus.) She especially likes R2-D2. We told her it was on but flipped the channels in between programs. The two-year old responded by asking, “If Star Wars is on, why are we watching this?” We could not argue with her logic. She is definitely RAW’s child.

RAW and I were completely content spending our Friday night watching cartoons with the exhausted child snuggled between us. Friends, we are old.
